DIVINE HEALING

Part One

If you are suffering from a sickness or disease, no matter how minor or serious (perhaps even to the point of being terminal), there is hope for you when you believe and trust in the true and living God. You may have tried all kinds of cures; in your desperation, you may even have submitted yourself to superstitious beliefs, but to no avail.

Despite that, God is still waiting for you to turn to Him, even though you have consulted Him last. All it matters is that you do finally turn to Him as the last resort. Allow me to assure you that God still loves you, regardless of how you feel toward Him or how you have ignored Him all this while.

God’s love for you is beyond comprehension. He simply loves you because He is your Creator and Lover of your soul. If all natural means to get well have failed and you have come to the end of yourself, you are, in fact, a good candidate for divine healing.

God specializes in the impossible, and He has the power and willingness to make possible your impossibility. Whatever is impossible with man is possible with God, if only you believe.

You may ask, “How do I believe so that I can be healed of my sickness?”

As you continue to read this message with an open heart, God will quicken your heart to recognize and believe the divine truth. His truth will set you free from darkness and bondage, and light will shine into your heart. You will then understand God’s Word and realize that He longs to touch and heal you, not just your physical body but your entire being as well.

God has more in store for you than you know. In fact, He has a wonderful plan for your life. He wants you to live a meaningful and fulfilled life. Yes, you can have a life of health and vibrancy!

As you read on, I will be guiding you step by step toward your healing. Please don’t skip any steps. Read them again and again until your heart is full of faith, and your life will take on a new meaning. Everything in this book is based on the Word of God, therefore, it is true.

I will be answering a series of commonly asked questions about divine healing. I pray that your heart is ready to receive all that God has for your life and that your understanding will be quickened by His Spirit. This is going to be the turning point in your life, so get ready for your miracle!

WHAT IS DIVINE HEALING?

Divine healing is supernatural healing from God. We call it a miracle. It is an intervention of God in response to prayer. It doesn’t happen by using natural means because it is a supernatural act of God.

In our church, Lighthouse Evangelism, such miracles are not infrequent occurrences. By now, countless of people have received healing of all kinds of illnesses. It defies description. Some can be very sick one moment, but supernaturally quickened and energized the next. While others get well progressively, becoming stronger and stronger by the day.

In many cases, not only is one’s health improving, there is a strengthening of character as well. So God is interested in both the interior and exterior of man.

God begins with your heart. He heals you from the inside out. He wants to make you a better person in every way, not merely healing your physical ailment, because He has a wonderful plan for your life.

So divine healing is God touching man and making Him whole. It is His grace and power that bring about the cure and wholeness.

WHO IS THIS GOD OF DIVINE HEALING?

This God has been revealed in the Bible as the One Who has created Heaven and earth – the entire universe. He is the Maker of all things in this endless universe – things existing in the micro, cosmic and spiritual dimensions. He is the only One Who transcends space and time.

Despite His immense greatness, He loves you and me so much that He came as a Man to suffer and die for our sins. Since He has created you, He knows how to heal you when you are unwell. We are not dealing with a mere man, but an awesome God Whose love and power know no limits. Everything about Him is vast and endless.

Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

There was not a time He was not around, and there will not be a time He is no more. He is everlasting, so is His love for you.

Philippians 2:6-8 (CEV) 6 Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God. 7 He gave up everything and became a slave, when he became like one of us. 8 Christ was humble. He obeyed God and even died on a cross.

The name of this healing God is Jesus. He is not a created Being because He has always been self-existing. He is the Uncaused First Cause as He has caused all things to become a reality.

Because of our desperate needs for salvation, healing and deliverance, He came to this earth as a Man and laid down His own life so that through that act of sacrifice, He can give us everything we need. This is your God Who has already done everything required of Him to make you well. His name is the Lord Jesus Christ.

WHY DOES JESUS WANT TO HEAL YOU?

There are three powerful and inspirational reasons why Jesus wants to heal you. The answers will touch your heart to the very core.

1. He created you as a unique individual.

It was not evolution but God’s deliberate plan that you were created. Therefore, He created you as a unique individual with a great purpose. So you are special, one of its kind and, in God’s eyes, a masterpiece.

An ancient Psalmist recognized that. Under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, as he marveled at God’s great love, he wrote the psalm.

Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Don’t allow the devil to trick you into believing that your life is worthless and that you have no reason for living. You are wonderfully created by God, and your Creator has a marvelous plan for the rest of your life.

2. He simply loves you.

Have you ever loved somebody for no particular reason? You simply adore that person, and you do not exactly know why. Again, the enlightened Psalmist reveals to us how God regards you and me.

Psalm 139:17&18 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Just imagine that God is thinking of you all the time, day and night, without ceasing. If you were to scoop a handful of sand and try to count them, it would take a long time. Imagine counting all the grains of sand on the seashore, it is impossible to do so because they are countless. Yet God’s thoughts toward you are more in number than the sand. That’s an awful lot of thoughts, you know!

Lovers are fond of saying to each other, “I will be thinking of you.” God is the greatest Lover, the Lover of your soul. He thinks of you all the time, so much so that the Psalmist realized and exclaimed, “When I awake, I am still with Thee.”

Whether you are awake or asleep, God thinks about you. In your sleep, you may not be conscious of that fact. Nonetheless, when you are awake, He is still there thinking of you and desiring to bless you, if you will only turn to Him. Even now, He is watching over you.

3. God cannot help Himself but to love you.

This is beyond our comprehension. Why does He love us so much even when we have not regarded Him as important in our lives? More than a mother’s love, He doesn’t give up on us. No matter how far we have gone astray, He has a love for us that doesn’t know how to let go.

Perhaps this is the reason why you are somehow led to read this book. Without you knowing it, He is watching and leading you to the right path. Everything you have read so far is resonating in your heart.

Psalm 139:7-10 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Right at this moment, He knows that you are reading this message about His love. He is leading you to Himself where you can find healing, health and wholeness.

Divine Healing

PART 2

WHAT IS THE SCRIPTURAL BASIS FOR DIVINE HEALING?

In the Bible, there are numerous passages in which God promises divine healing for those who believe. There are too many to quote them all here.

While Jesus was on earth, He devoted a great deal of His time healing the sick and afflicted. This shows the tremendous desire in God’s heart to make us well.

In answer to the question whether or not it is scriptural to believe in divine healing, I have selected only two pivotal passages from the Bible to prove conclusively that it is God’s will and plan to heal. One is taken from the Old Testament and the other from the New Testament, each confirming the other.

As you read them reverently, please keep in mind the awesome sacrifice Christ had made for your healing. He took our guilty place and was punished for our sins so that we can be free from the penalty of sin. He bore our sicknesses and diseases so that we need not carry them ourselves. He rose again from the dead so that the divine healing for our total man can be effectual.

Isaiah 53:1-5 1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

In simple and modern English, let me tell you what Isaiah the Prophet was prophesying some 700 years before Jesus Christ came into this world.

Here is the most wonderful message:

Who can bring himself to believe our wonderful report? Has anyone seen God’s power to believe what we are going to tell you?

Like a young plant, He shall come into this world like any ordinary person. Outwardly, there is nothing special about Him.

He is going to be despised and rejected of men – a Man of pains and acquainted with sicknesses. On the Cross, He will look so hideous because of the torments He is going to endure for us that we will turn our faces from Him. Surely, He has borne our sicknesses and carried our pains.

It is because God has made Him paid for our sins. He was wounded and bruised for us, and with His stripes, we are healed.

That is the message of salvation, healing and deliverance.

That is God’s promise of divine healing which was given about 2,700 years ago. But the fulfillment came about 2,000 years ago when Christ walked the earth.

Matthew 8:14-17 14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. 15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

It is impossible to read the four Gospels about Jesus without being struck by the prominence He places on divine healing. In this Matthew passage, He healed Peter’s mother-in-law of fever and then proceeded to minister healing and deliverance to many people.

Verse 17 explains that the Lord Jesus Christ did all that in order to fulfill what Isaiah the Prophet had prophesied 700 years before He came. The conclusive statement of fulfillment is captured in one sentence, “Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” That means He took upon Himself our sicknesses so that we can be free from carrying them ourselves.

It is, therefore, crystal clear that divine healing is in the atonement provided by our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ so that we can be saved from our sins and healed of our sicknesses.

There is absolutely not a shadow of doubt that there is a strong scriptural basis for divine healing. Yes, God longs to heal you so much so that He has it written in black and white. His part is to give you access to His healing power, and your part is to believe and receive.

WHY DOESN’T DIVINE HEALING ALWAYS PRODUCE INSTANT RESULTS?

This question can be put in another way: why doesn’t divine healing happen immediately?

I have been ministering to the sick for over 30 years and have observed that God heals instantly in some cases and progressively in others. I don’t have all the reasons why God doesn’t heal everybody instantly. But that doesn’t alter the truth that He longs to heal you.

Every case is unique and only God knows how to deal with each sick folk. A case in point is found in the healing of a blind man by Jesus; he did not receive his healing immediately.

Mark 8:22-25 22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. 24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. 25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

Some folks brought a blind man to Jesus when He was in the town of Bethsaida. Instead of praying for the blind man right away, He took him by the hand, and led him out of the town. Why did Jesus do that? Perhaps there was so much unbelief among the onlookers.

Then Jesus ministered to the blind man. Immediately after laying hands upon him, He asked the man if he could see anything. That man was not instantly and fully healed so he saw men as though they were trees.

Jesus ministered to him the second time. After that, the blind man saw clearly. The healing was progressive, and not immediate, although the whole process didn’t take very long.

That reminds me of a little boy whom one of our Gospelighters ministered to in Muar, Malaysia, many years ago. That boy had a hernia that was rather large. After prayer, it shrank. The mother of this boy was being encouraged to bring him to the platform to testify for the glory of God.

By the time they reached me, the mother was excitedly trying to find that growth in her son’s body which had already disappeared entirely. She was stunned. That healing was progressive, although the interval between the healing prayer and the disappearance of the hernia was short in duration.

There was a lady who used to attend our healing crusades in Singapore in the ’80s. She showed up at our church not too long ago, and recounted the many miracles she had received from our ministry over the years.

I was reminded of one exciting night in which this lady had received healing for a host of sicknesses. After the meeting, when she was walking to her car, she suddenly discovered that another sickness of hers had been completely healed. And she later testified that when she reached home, she discovered yet another sickness being healed.

This is not unusual. In many cases, we have heard of people being healed, sometimes a few days later, or a few weeks later, or even a few months later.

Let me give you another example in the person of Helen Ang. When she was suffering severe rashes, she was in constant discomfort.

Trying to appease the itch all over her body, she scratched furiously till the countless of rashes broke and bled. Her doctor was alarmed at her condition and exclaimed, “I’ve never seen so many rashes in my life!”

The diagnosis revealed that her condition was known as cryoglobulin. The root cause of it was the abnormal blood protein in her system. As she researched into this dreadful sickness, she realized that her incurable sickness would eventually adversely affect her liver, kidneys, lungs and even the immune system.

Hers was a rare condition, and she was being advised to observe her toenails regularly. They could turn black and simply fall off if her condition grew worse.

Helen’s doctor strongly recommended the use of steroids, which she flatly refused, because of all the known side effects. Seeing there was obviously no hope as far as medical science was concerned, she decided to trust God.

For over 20 months, she attended our Miracle Service faithfully. Her condition improved progressively. There were ups and downs throughout those 20 months, but she kept faith with the Lord. Recently, the doctor had given her a clean bill of health.

Helen also suffered dry eyes for over 20 years. Often, she could feel her eyelids rubbing against her eyeballs. Again, she was progressively healed. Now she is also free from this painful condition.

That’s not all. The cyst in her left breast had also disappeared. Her doctor said that he could not find it.

Lately, Helen had been asking herself this question, “Why didn’t Jesus Christ heal me the first time?”

In retrospect, after 20 months, she answered her own question, “I learn so much and begin to know God much better as I continue to attend the Miracle Service.”

When we come to the Lord Jesus for healing, let us come to Him just as we are, like a little child, in simple faith, and accept whatever way He wants to heal us, be it instant or progressive.

What would have happened to Helen if she had thrown in the towel when she did not receive instant healing? The story would be tragically different. Thank God, Helen persevered in faith and kept attending the Miracle Service.

While her health progressed over those 20 months, she drew closer to God. Progressively, she became a better person in every way.

DIVINE HEALING

PART 3

WHERE CAN I BE HEALED?

The main question is not where you are in a certain locale, but where your heart is. That is not to say that an atmosphere of faith, such as you will find in our Miracle Service, is not important. Countless people have been gloriously touched and healed in our healing services.

However, many are also healed elsewhere, even in their homes and workplaces. So it is not where your physical body is but, rather, where you position your heart that ultimately matters. It is what you know about divine healing according to God’s Word and how you apply healing Scriptures to your situation that finally count.

I cannot recount the number of cases in which sick folks actually received their healing right in their own homes after attending the Miracle Service; often, without expecting it. These people literally felt the tangible power of God like heat or electric current surging through their bodies while at home.

I remember that there was this lady who had her poor eyesight strengthened to a marked degree when she was traveling in a taxi to our church for the Miracle Service. Having said that, I would still strongly encourage you to attend our Miracle Service as regularly as you possibly can because everything we say or do in such a service is to encourage and increase your faith toward healing and wholeness.

But if you are unable to attend the Miracle Service for some reasons beyond your control, it doesn’t mean that there is no hope for you. You can read all the healing Scriptures, especially the healing cases in the four Gospels, or read a book on divine healing, or visit our website at www.lighthouse.org.sg for articles on this subject.

A housing developer once attended our Miracle Service and was so fascinated by our healing testimonies that he kept coming. Although he was a Christian, he could not believe that the testimonies were genuine. He thought that I had fixed them up. He couldn’t help but wondered how I managed to immaculately conceal my “deceptive secrets” for so long.

One day, he hurt his hand badly. Out of desperation, he pulled out my book 5 Miracle Steps from his drawer and began to read. Lo and behold, he was healed! With that change of heart, he even went up the stage to testify. And he wasn’t healed in church.

I encourage you to read the healing passages of the Bible until faith rises up like a giant in your heart. That is when the river of healing and life will flow wherever you are. When you plunge in and swim in it, you will get better and stronger.

Romans 10:17 says, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The more you receive the Word of God into your heart, the stronger your faith will become. And when your faith is strong, nothing is impossible. You will receive your healing.

WILL JESUS HEAL SOMEONE WHO IS TOO BUSY FOR GOD AND SPIRITUAL THINGS?

Many fervent and healthy Christians in our midst today were once sick and paganistic. They had no time for God. In fact, they hardly spared a thought for Him until they became too sick to be busy. Yet God still miraculously healed and delivered them from their sicknesses when they turned to Him.

If you are sick and are now looking to God for help, I want you to know that He is your merciful and compassionate Heavenly Father. He loves to hear from you, even if you are asking for help. Instead of using your plight to knock you down, He wants to help you realize that life is more than material things. You are a spiritual being and you need God.

There are more important things in life than the pursuit of worldly position, power and possession. It is vital to know God intimately, to spend time with your family, to build character and true values, and to prepare yourself for eternity.

God knows that when you have experienced His healing embrace, you will stop chasing after the wind. You will be able to differentiate between what is significant and what is trivial. You will value eternal things that endure and matter most in life and not temporal things which are transient and will pass away. You will also yearn to become a blessing to others. Not only will your perspective of life change, so will your lifestyle.

In God’s infinite wisdom, He is able to use your sickness to put a proper perspective and balance in your heart so that you can live a more meaningful and fulfilled life. God’s objective is to change your attitude and make you a better person, but the devil wants to make you bitter. The choice is yours.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

God longs to lead you to the path of healing and wholeness, but the devil wants to lead you to the broad way (the popular way) of degeneration and destruction.

If you have been too busy, ask God to help you slow down. Be still and quiet in your heart. Begin to know that God loves you and He is happy that you are having a change of heart. Pay more attention to spiritual things and read your Bible.

Mark 5:25-34 recounts the story of a certain woman who had an incurable disease and she was too preoccupied with her problem to know God. Desperately seeking for a cure, she went from one physician to another.

Her long search of 12 years for a cure had cost her everything. Her quality of life was diminishing as her condition worsened with each passing year. Her continuous medical care depleted all her savings. She felt that her relatives and friends found her burdensome. Probably, by then, she looked like a walking skeleton and realized that she was actually dying.

Worst of all, she was in spiritual ignorance and darkness. The irony was that her busyness in her search for the right physician had caused her to miss the Great Physician, Jesus Christ. However, God had not overlooked her case. One day, Jesus was passing her way … That was when she received the Healer and her healing.

You may want to read our booklet 5 Miracle Steps for the outcome of that wonderful encounter. As you read this, do you know that Jesus is also passing your way? Not only is hope being rekindled in your heart, faith is rising up as well. Stay in this position of receptivity and keep reading this message. Your healing is on the way.
